We enjoyed our layover day in Fort Davis. We did some shopping - we bought a hat, and handmade broomsticks for Tamara and Dana.
We have had a couple of hard days riding mainly due to hellacious head winds.
Marathon was a very quaint town and the bar tender at the White Buffalo bar kept us entertained.
Last night we slept through many hours of thunder and lightening in the campsite in Marathon. Our tent kept us mostly dry.
Sanderson has been devastated by the economic down turn with everything for sale.
Tonight we are staying in a motel which is very good as there are again thunderstorms and lightening. The locals are happy as there has been a major drought.
Our co-riders are happy to share their exercise history. Olaf (72) from Hamburg, Germany, is doing his second trans-America bicycle trip and has amazing stamina. He was a boy scout, kayaked many miles in Europe and has been biking for the last 16 years since his wife died. He finds it very peaceful and therapeutic. He ascribes his good health to good genes - both his parents lived into their 90s. He doesn't smoke and occasionally drinks wine. He has been riding most of the time with us. In the pictures you will see him mostly in red.
